MQA is Committed to Internationalizing the Country's Higher Education

The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) is committed to internationalizing the country's higher education so that it continues to be the destination of choice for international students.

Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran said that many country representatives were interested in collaborating with Malaysia in the higher education sector because of their confidence in its quality.

He said, this matter was stated by representatives of embassies and countries who were present at the Minister of Higher Education's engagement program with representatives of foreign countries recently.

"Approximately 100 ambassadors and state representatives were present to hear the collaboration and dialogue with the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir; Head of Higher Education Directorate, Prof. Dr. Azlinda Azman and agency representatives under the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT).

"The presence of many ambassadors and representatives of the country proves their interest in Malaysian higher education and they want to know more about it, especially regarding the quality aspects and the initiatives we are taking, this gives us a big space to promote the country's higher education," he said.

Mohammad Shatar said, after the dialogue session, many representatives of countries met to establish cooperation with MQA, emphasizing a mutual recognition approach, including from India, Yemen, Libya and Jordan.

He said, MQA will collaborate with accreditation bodies outside the country so that they have approval for any Malaysian IPT program that has received MQA accreditation to be accepted for use by them and vice versa.

He said, MQA as the sole body that oversees quality assurance in higher education will always explore collaboration with foreign accreditation agencies, but this initiative needs to have the support of our IPT by offering programs that meet the tastes of international students.

"At MQA, we always ensure that the quality of the country's higher education is at the best level because that is one of the main indicators why international students choose Malaysia as their study destination .

"All of these initiatives are in line with the focus of Internationalization of Higher Education in the minister's remarks at the 2024 KPT New Year Platform and the management engagement session with representatives of foreign countries," he said.
