Quality Main Factor International Students Choose Malaysian HEIs

The good quality of higher education is the main factor for international students to make Malaysia their preferred destination to continue their studies.

Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Prof. Grandfather Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran said, one of the indicators of the quality of excellence is that the knowledge gained in higher education institutions (IPT) can be disseminated so that it can be felt by the community.

He said, scientific activities carried out either in the form of teaching and learning or research must be ensured to be utilized by the general public both inside and outside the country.

He said, we do not want all the processes that take place at IPT to be only for the progress and development of individuals or certain groups, but more importantly to have an impact on society and the country.

"If this matter can be realized, the image and reputation of the country's higher education will continue to stand out on the national, even international scene.

"The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) aims to enroll 250,000 international students by 2025."

"Therefore we cannot be easily satisfied with existing achievements and need to continue to translate excellence," he said.

Mohammad Shatar said, in an effort to make the local HEIs better in quality, research findings need to be used together.

He said, if partnership with the community actively takes place, all forms of development that the university is working on will be felt by all and further help improve the nation's progress holistically.

"The term university as an 'ivory tower' should not be a place that is too exclusive that it cannot be shared with the community.

"Today's world is based on knowledge, so people who do not care about knowledge and innovation will continue to lag behind," he said.
