The Formation of 'Brains and Character' Gives Rise to National Quality Talent

Formation of 'brain and character' is very significant in the effort to create a quality Malaysian society.

Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Prof. Grandfather Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran said, that matter is the main criterion in the development of talent in this country and further succeeds in five main focuses covering 20 directions outlined by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) throughout this year.

He said, the elements mentioned by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Royal Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir in his speech at the KPT 2024 Pathway Meeting was a pillar in producing academically excellent students with commendable personalities.

"The characteristics of that talent is having a good level of thinking at the same time as having an excellent character.

"In the context of students, that group needs to show manners, respect culture and behave like educated individuals," he said.

At the beginning of this year, KPT listed five main focuses to be implemented for the year 2024, which are the provision of the country's best talent, strengthening the research and innovation ecosystem, the implementation of new approaches to knowledge transfer and sharing programs, the internationalization of higher education, as well as the strengthening of the enabling ecosystem and the formation of 'brains and character' becomes the essence of the main foundation of education.

Mohammad Shatar said, the formation of 'brain and character' in the development of talent is also closely related to excellence and soul because we do not want to produce great character or talent but without soul.

He said, the matter needs to be emphasized and then translated through the teaching and learning process (PdP) in the classroom or any other PdP platform.

"In this effort, local higher education institutions (HEIs), whether public or private, need to take this wish seriously because they are capable of producing a generation of great students.

"If it can be implemented successfully, the generation that will be born will have exceptional quality and expertise in their respective fields.

"This will be an attraction for employers from home and abroad because their talents meet the criteria required by the industry," he said.
